The Latvian sailors have been lucky. It was pure coinsidence, when back in the winter of 1959 three studens met at the Riga Technical University and decided to act upon a teenage idea, to put together two canoes and therby they build the first catamaran. Today catamarans and other types of multihull yachts are the fastes and at the same time the fastes growing sector in the world of the yacht building industry. An industry where also Latvia can claim its place. It is not by chance that a self build catamaran is the first yacht from Latvia to sail around the world and its captain Valdis Grenenbergs is one of the three above mentioned students.

The Latvian sailors have been lucky once again. And once again it was pure coincidence that as the Latvian catamaran builders had no possibilities to participate in races beyond the iron curtain, they deceided to race on their own and built a yacht to break speed records. When breaking the worlds speed record the hydro-foils where examined and new ways of their utilization were found. Today Latvia is the first to have developed a new type of hydro-foil yacht with a considerably higher speed, targeting the widest variety of yachtsmen. Now this yacht is entering the world market.

We do not enter the yachting world empty-handed, the Latvian Multihull Yacht Assosiantion has much to offer. It has been created during many decades and only the delayed flow of information has not let the world know until now. Therefor a breif look at the past.
